The exhibition highlights the life's work and ideas of Kiel's museum founders, shows extraordinary exhibits from the early days of the collections, explains concepts of historic museum architecture as well as exhibition didactics, and discusses the potential and prospects of Kiel as a museum location.

Die Reise zum Mittelpunkt der Erde (Journey to the Centre of the Earth)

In the style of the novel by Jules Verne the exhibition accompanies visitors on a journey to the centre of the earth. On the way they are informed of current scientific findings on the structure of the earth from the fields of geophysics, mineralogy and geology. Admission free.

"CAUboys. Kunst und Universität" (CAUboys. Art and University)

CAUboys – in this case, important men from 350 years of Kiel University. The Kunsthalle demonstrates the close connection between art and university through portraits of dukes and professors, works by university drawing masters, as well as by the university's honorary citizens and doctors.

The exhibition shows important contributions made to today's medicine by Kiel's doctors, scientists and academics. Also presented are the close interconnection between the Faculty of Medicine and its hospitals and the Kiel cityscape, as well as the history of the construction of numerous clinics. Another section of the exhibition is designed to provide food for thought on future subjects of modern medicine.

The exhibition recalls well-known representatives of the exegesis of the New Testament who lectured in Kiel, as well as researchers who have been rather forgotten, even in specialist circles. The exhibition tells the story of the Baltic Sea, which, despite its small size, is an extraordinary sea. It also highlights today's diverse Baltic Sea fauna on the basis of a collection documenting its changes over the last 150 years. In addition, it illustrates 150 years of marine research in Kiel.
